The Ninja of Mis4tune: Poster Series
Working with Mackenzie on this project, this was the one fact we chose out of the two we were given. After an afternoon brainstorming ideas, we realised that the advertising work we were really drawn to was character based work- adverts that created a believable but also slightly ridiculous character. With this in mind, our idea evolved into the character of ninja who wreaked havoc on everyone he came across- for example shoving ladders over their heads, opening umbrellas inside, and throwing black cats at people.
We then decided that within the time period we had, we wanted to use 2D images, as neither of us were particularly experienced at making films, so managed to book a photography flash studio for the next day. As we wanted a great deal of irony to be present in the photographs, we used overly dramatic lighting that simply highlighted parts of the character that we wanted seen.
We then turned these into posters, experimenting a lot with the kind of imagery we wanted. In the end we came out with a series of 3 posters, each illustrating a different element of the 'Ninja of Mis4tune'. However, I think if we could redo the project/had more time, we would have honed the posters into something that communicated our idea better, as once we explained the concept at the crit, it was well received, however the fact was not immediately communicated through the posters alone, so we perhaps should have been more explicit with our text.
