Preliminary experiments

David and Fitch

I chose to write about the iconic statue of David by Michelangelo, studying him as different types of graphic design such as a brand, illustration or logo and the societal problems that are illustrated within one statue and it’s impact on the world. I chose a punk-like style to show how David might be interpreted if he had been designed today, illustrating how far art and design has come over the centuries, but how, ironically, the ideas presented within design are the same.

Shown here are the iterations of each design, as punk is a difficult style to portray as it does not belong to any kind of grid. Influences were the Sex Pistols posters by Jamie Reid, as well as early i-D magazines. Size: A1
